It is generally accepted that Party Poker is the best site on on the net. Their incredible site numbers, which will soon approach 100,000 simultaneously logged in, coupled with generous monthly bonuses all wrapped up in a decent software package makes their current position unchallengeable (at least for the moment). The question naturally arises as to which sites are the best "second tier" sites. Under consideration are PokerStars, Paradisde Poker, Poker Room, UltimateBet and Pacific Poker. Although I play most of my poker at Party Poker, recently I played extensively at some second tier sites. This short article discusses why I believe Pacific Poker and Paradise Poker offer the best value outside Party Poker .
Pacific Poker is a real winner for me and I will tell you why. The games at this site appear to be looser than any other poker site on the net. Regualarly players were staying in wil hands that were obviously second best. Lots of players were taiking flops and the preflop action was not that agressive with comparatively few raises. This is particularly true for mid to lower limits. True the software is not the greatest in the world, but it does the job and that's all I want. Poker players over the past year have become more educated and it is becoming increasingly harder to make obscene profits playing poker. However, this site still gives great action and that is why I am recommending it. Games up to $5/$10 limit appear to be loose. Give it a try!
Paradise Poker was once the leader in the only poker industry. However, due to poor marketing other sites have taken over, but Paradise Poker is making a return. The site recently began an affiliate program and this has resulted in a fresh bunch of poker players to this site. What's more these players seem to be of a reasonably average standard. The software at this site has always been first class and now with the increased action I can see myself venturing to this site more often in coming months. I recommend giving it a try.
PokerRoom.com, has been around for a long time now and, all in al,l is a decent overall poker site. The site regularly offers deposit bonuses and the games are reasonably good. I tend to visit this site once and a while, usually when a bonus is on offer. Site numbers are healthy at this site as well making it attractive.
UltimateBet is sufficiently loose, but player numbers are low. Also, this site offers non-standard Holdem games in addition to standard hold'em. The non-standard games attract some action further reducing the active overall hold'em pool. Overall, I don't mind UltimateBet, but I think we can do better.
PokerStars site number most closely match Party Poker's. However, for some reason I have found the games incredibly tight at this site. While the ultra micro limit games my attract some fish I have found the mid to higher limits ($3/$6 upwards) to be incredibly tight. In addition, the site offers few, if any, ongoing bonuses. For me this rules PokerStars out as a serious contender for a player looking for some profit.
