Planet Poker Review

BACKGROUND

PlanetPoker claim they they are the oldest online poker site on the net. While I do not know if this is true or not, I know the site has been around a very long time. The site is endorsed by Mike Caro, who is a bit of a poker legend, though completely mad (as he will tell you).

SITE MEMBERSHIP

This is a medium to large poker site with up to 600 players online at any one time. The site has been established for a very long time and has seen steady growth over a number of years.

Unfortunately, for some reason the heads up action is not very popular at PlanetPoker, but all other forms of poker are generally well patronised.

GAME PLAY

Some of the higher limit games at this site are pretty tough. This is often the case for sites that have been around for many years, since good players generally progress up the limits and there becomes this log jam of tight aggressive players at higher limits. For micro to medium level players there is some pretty good action.

SOFTWARE

The software at this site use to be horrible! The graphics were terrible and it ran slowly. However, in keeping up with competitors a complete over haul of their software was undertaken in late 2002. The new version is a great improvement.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT

The website has a poker forum which is a great innovation that complements the existing support structure, which is mainly via email feedback.

PROMOTIONS

The site has very little in the way of promotions. Generally, entering tournaments are subsidised a bit by PlanetPoker, but apart from that there is nothing much they offer.
